A new series for all my rom-com lovers

Dear reader,

I am so excited to share with you the story of Adelaide and Rhett! While The Duke Was Sleeping is the first in a series of 90s rom-coms reimagined as historical romances. I chose to start with this novel because its inspiration is one of my favorite movies. I am lucky to have a very close family, but I can resonate with the idea of not having a ‘home.’ I’m an army brat who moved every two years until adulthood. When people ask me where I’m from, I say “nowhere.”

Adelaide Rosebourne is searching for her place in the world. Her attempt to find that by impersonating her mistress was a questionable choice, indeed. It’s a good thing her story is in the hands of a hopeless romantic.

I love the idea of the heir and the spare. Living in someone’s shadow is not fun. Rhett’s been trying to find his place in the world… Can you see where this is going? Both of them have literally been traveling the continent, passing each other without realizing. Until now. Until Rhett’s brother, the duke, meets with an accident and the comedy unfolds.

While The Duke Was Sleeping is my love letter to family, and to the movies that brought me so much joy.

Much love,

Samara

Fun fact: Rhett’s name was not actually Rhett for 99% of the book’s production. It was a very last minute, stop the press kind of moment.

Coming Soon! While The Duke Was Sleeping

First rule of a secret identity: don’t let anyone get too close.

When Adelaide Rosebourne has to impersonate her mistress for a few days, it doesn’t seem like a difficult task, even if her mistress’s supposed fiancé is in a coma. All she has to do is wait until he wakes and convince him to retract the proposal—thereby securing herself a tidy reward. She doesn’t count on the arrival of the duke’s brother and his damned inconvenient interest in her affairs. But does it really matter? She’ll be gone before he finds out the truth.

Rhett Montgomery knows two things—he is woefully unprepared to take over the dukedom, and the woman who claims to be his brother’s betrothed is not who she says she is. No debutante swears so fiercely or kisses with such recklessness. Investigating is what any good brother would do, right? As long as he doesn’t start falling for her charms as well.

“The perfect combination of drama, sensuality, and emotion.”
